[link] did this to me.
1. I somewhat achieved my childhood dream to be a comic book artist. Sure, I've nearly 75 published credits, but they're NOT for the "name" publishers such as Marvel Comics and DC Comics.
2. I have dual citizenship (U.S. and Germany).
3. When I was practicing my artistic craft in my callow youth, my three influences were John Romita Sr., Rich Buckler Sr. and John Byrne. My all-time favorite inker is Joe Sinnott.
4. Speaking of four, I've been married four times.
5. Another of my interests is old-school professional wrestling (NOT that bullpucky they run in WWE). My all-time favorite wrestler is Mr. Wrestling II (Johnny Walker) and my current favorite is the Wrestler (better-known as one of the original Nightmares, Ted Allen). My all-time favorite "heel" wrestler is the late Stan "The Man" Stasiak. As well as a couple of wrestling masks (Mr. Wrestling II and my character Incarcerator #2), I have a replica of the old NWA World's Heavyweight Championship belt. In a few weeks I'll endeavor to achieve another childhood dream, to be involved in professional wrestling as I'll begin training to be a referee. Just call me the White & Black Attack.
6. In my callow youth I used to read war comics Dad brought home, such as G.I. Combat (the Haunted Tank, Sgt. Rock, Johnny Cloud, Captain Storm) until I grooved on "Enemy Ace". When I discovered superhero comics, my first favorite was none other than Captain America. Then I took a liking to Cap's fellow Avenger, Hawkeye. In the early 70s, Hawkeye took a backseat to Luke Cage, then Deathlok, then Wolverine. In the 80s and 90s, Grimjack was my boy. Then, after the Grimjack series folded, I went retro, returning to Captain America just before his assassination.
6a. As well as superheroes, I had a fondness for those fourth-rate supervillains that always seemed to maybe get the upper hand for a few pages before their oppolent figured how to defeat the villain. My top ten supervillains are Batroc, Equinox, Firebrand (Gary Gilbert), Flag-Smasher, Gladiator (Melvin Potter), Killer Shrike, Scorpio (Jake Fury), Titanium Man (Boris Bullski), Unicorn and the Wrecker. Even better, how about those supervillains led by another closet favorite, Colonel Gideon Mace.
7. Let's talk favorites. Favorite food: my spaghetti. Favorite movie: "Escape From New York". Favorite book: "Damnnation Alley" by Roger Zelazny. Favorite color: black. Favorite actor: John Wayne. Favorite actress: Adrienne Barbeau. Favorite song: "Love Is All Around" by the Troggs. Favorite President: Ronald Reagan. Favorite collegic football team: Michigan Wolverines. Favorite professional football team: Atlanta Felons...Falcons. Favorite professional baseball team; Atlanta Braves. Favorite baseball players: Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron, Phil Niekro.
Favorite race car drivers: A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Richard Petty, Mark Martin. Favorite city: Las Vegas.
8. One of the first movies I saw as a child was "633 Squadron", starring Cliff Robertson. I'll be receiving a copy of that on DVD this week. Also, at the same theater, on Saturday mornings, before the cartoons, they would run a chapter of the Republic series "Manhunt Of Mystery Island" ([link]).
